The project “Provision of Digital Technologies Fostering Tourism 4.0 and Technological Learning in Montenegro” has successfully concluded a two-day programme held in Podgorica on 2–3 June 2026. The programme combined a hands-on workshop on digital innovation for cultural heritage with the presentation of the project’s achievements and innovative concepts for its digital interpretation.

On 2 June, participants gathered at the University of Donja Gorica (UDG) for a practical workshop focused on the digital documentation of cultural heritage. The programme included a field session at Žabljak Crnojevića, where participants explored site assessment methods, digital capture techniques, and practical approaches to documenting heritage assets. Activities continued at UDG with photo editing and data processing, including the generation of point clouds and textured 3D mesh models. Through hands-on experience, participants gained valuable insights into how digital technologies can support heritage preservation and create new opportunities for innovative Tourism 4.0 products and experiences.

The presentation of the project’s key results, held on 3 June at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Montenegro, brought together representatives of public institutions, municipalities, tourism organizations, technology providers, creative industries, academia, and experts working in the fields of tourism innovation, digital transformation, and cultural heritage preservation.

Among the distinguished speakers were Montenegro’s Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordić, Secretary at the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Rogelj, and UNIDO representative Farrukh Alimdjanov. In their addresses, they highlighted the importance of digital technologies, innovation, and international cooperation in strengthening Montenegro’s tourism sector and unlocking the potential of its rich cultural heritage.

Throughout the project, digital capture and 3D documentation of cultural heritage sites at Žabljak Crnojevića and Fort Goražda were carried out, a series of training workshops on digital innovation for cultural heritage were delivered, and a digital platform featuring the project’s learning materials and results was established. The project also launched a Call for Innovative Concepts: Digital Interpretation of Cultural Heritage, encouraging participants to develop creative digital solutions for heritage interpretation and visitor engagement. As part of its contribution to European digital heritage initiatives, the project joined the TwinIt initiative and contributed two digital 3D models of cultural heritage to the European data space, supporting wider accessibility, preservation, and reuse of cultural heritage assets.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the winning concepts developed through the Call for Innovative Concepts:

By connecting digital technologies, cultural heritage, and Tourism 4.0 approaches, the project contributes to the development of new knowledge, skills, and innovative solutions that support the future of tourism in Montenegro. At the same time, it strengthens local capacities, fosters collaboration across sectors, and demonstrates how digital technologies can enhance the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of cultural heritage.
